Critic Needs:
Dining Hall
Most structures, including classrooms, are dirt floored with tin roofs and no insulation - in dire need of renovation. Completing the dining hall is key to giving our students a place to gather for school events, and be nourished.
Installing Solar panels and a generator
Currently, Rushaga has very limited electricity. There is one lightbulb in the dormitory and one electrical outlet in the office for the computer. Installing solar panels and purchasing a generator will allow for lights in the classrooms and support a small computer lab for students. If plumbing is installed, it will also allow for running water, making it a more sanitary place to learn. For the dormitories, showers are desperately needed.
Clean Water
Nothing happens without water. We’re currently building a well to provide running water to the entire school. Currently, the only water source comes from buckets filled with water from a nearby stream.
Leveling the Soccer Field & Providing Sports Equipment
Rushaga has no football pitch (soccer field) and very little equipment. There is virtually no sports equipment available to them. Regardless, they have a football team and compete against other community schools. Proper equipment will enable them to progress and participate in a variety of sports, gleaning valuable life lessons from working as a team.
Expanding the Library and access to internet
There is a significant need for computer equipment and other critical learning materials including books and study guides for the library.
Providing Mattresses & Blankets for the Dormitories
The dormitories are filled with worn wooden bunk beds, straw mattresses and old blankets. New mattresses and blankets will provide a more sanitary environment and a more comfortable place for students to live and learn.
