In Uganda, the pursuit of education is not only a legal obligation but a transformative opportunity for children's lives. However, limited government resources and the scarcity of state-run schools have created significant obstacles. Imagine the challenges faced by students who must trek long distances on foot to access education, hindering their potential and dreams. But there is hope on the horizon.

 

In the resilient Rushaga community, a group of dedicated parents took matters into their own hands. They rallied together to establish a local school, ensuring that their children could receive an education within reach. These parents, predominantly hardworking farmers, are already burdened with providing for their families' basic needs. The additional weight of education expenses has pushed them to their limits.

Tragically, over 150 students were forced to drop out of school due to their parents' inability to afford tuition fees. The consequences are heart-wrenching, as these young minds are deprived of the educational opportunities they desperately need. At present, Rushaga Community School has 179 enrolled students, many of whom face significant challenges in meeting their tuition obligations.

 

Within this student body, there are 62 children living on the school premises, and among them, 36 are orphaned and vulnerable. They have faced unimaginable hardships, but together, we can provide them with the hope, support, and educational foundation they deserve.

 

Additionally, 35 students at Rushaga Community School belong to the Batwa tribe, a marginalized community displaced by the establishment of national parks for gorilla conservation. As conservation refugees, they face limited opportunities, perpetuating a cycle of poverty. By investing in their education, we can empower them to break free from the constraints of their circumstances and unlock their full potential.
